The Bundles Have Arrived!

The last couple weeks have been very crazy for Dave and me, and I wanted to give you all an update since direct communication is not always very easy. First and most importantly, Dave and I have two babies! They are Logan Steven and Adelaide Jean, born 5/18, and we couldn't be prouder.

Their arrival has demonstrated to us in short order how your world can go sideways with kids. My pregnancy had been pretty healthy and normal up to last week, but by my 29 week doctor visit I was starting to show symptoms of pre-eclampsia. This is a common condition (especially with twins) most often associated with high blood pressure during pregnancy, but when it escalates it can be dangerous for everyone. Our doctor sent us to the hospital last Wednesday for more tests and observation. At that point we were expecting to hear bad news about bed rest for the remainder of the pregnancy, but by Sunday we were told that my symptoms were getting very serious and it wasn't safe anymore to continue. I was in the operating room two hours later!

Logan and Adel were born at about 30 weeks of age, so they are still very small but tough little nuggets. They are receiving excellent care at the St. Joe's intensive care nursery, and will probably be there for another 8-10 weeks, along with Mom and Dad as much as possible.

Many thanks and hugs to all of you for your support and concern, we are emotional but doing well, attacking our challenges and looking forward to a great home coming this summer.

Baby Updates

It's taken me a while to write, but the truth is that I haven't had much news! We have been doing our best to get ready for the babies, which is a bit of a challenge when your energy is low and you're not feeling as mobile as you used to be.

But here are the updates. First, my sister-in-law Lora threw us an amazing baby shower, that's two masterpieces in two years! Everyone had a great time and I was absolutely dazzled at the generosity of our friends and family. Above, my favorite photo (so far -- I haven't seen many!).

The other things we're working on is finishing our wills -- perhaps even less exciting than it sounds -- and figuring out where we want to live for the short- and long-term. We've had our place on the market for a while, but no bites yet. We've also narrowed down the neighborhood we want to move to. The news media really ought to check it out, it seems to be an anomaly to the headlines of dropping home prices. Yikes!

As for the pregnancy itself, we're doing pretty well. Both babies seem to be healthy and growing, and my side effects are getting less annoying. I seem to have conquered the worst of the morning sickness, fatigue, insomnia, back pain, and have now moved on to puffy ankles. Sounds almost harmless, although there may be the possibility of bed rest in my near future. Well, either way only 8 more weeks to go!
