LASIK

I got Lasik!! I’ve been wanting it for years, and finally made the decision. My friend Michelle got it recently and splurged quite a lot to have her regular optometrist do it. But you know what a bargain hunter I am... It got me thinking, so I did a little searching and found a specialty shop that offers relatively low prices based on volume business. Of course with this strategy everyone I know was worried about me going to a butcher shop with outdated equipment! But I was comfortable with the place, honestly the procedure strikes me as a commodity by now, the optometrist that gave me a pre-screen was great, the surgeon was great, the financing was great, what’s not to like? My surgeon said he has corrected 46,000 eyes over the last 20 years. And he is an Iowa alum, you can’t beat that.
So the pre-screen a couple weeks ago took an hour, and amazingly, they had me in and out of the door yesterday in 40 minutes. I couldn’t believe it. The surgery itself was not much fun, no one likes having their eyes messed with, but it was roughly equivalent to a really annoying eye exam – lots of drops, holding still, looking at points of light, and pressure without pain. They even gave me a little stuffed pig to hug. I spent the afternoon napping off the Valium in goggles, and my vision got more and more clear through the evening. I was nearsighted until yesterday, so I was looking out all the windows to see details of nearby trees and apartments I’d never noticed before.
This morning I dropped in for my first check. I wore regular sunglasses in the car, and was shocked to see how many stoplights there are on Colorado Boulevard to the horizon. They said that everything is healing perfectly, my eyes are still a little swollen so my vision will continue to improve, but I read the 20/20 line on the eye chart.
Wow, what a crazy lucky life I lead.
