New Video

Here's a video that shows Logan starting to stand, in a way, Ada's new affinity for spitting, and how to make a new toy out of a plastic bag... Man they are fun.

My Favorite Sale!

Victoria's Secret is having their semi-annual clearance sale right now! This is one of my favorite shopping routines, and I've missed out over the last couple years, let's just say I wasn't a predictable size for anything they sell... So I've gotten a couple new goodies, take a look!

Movie Update

Here is a trailer for the Sherlock Holmes movie! Did I ever mention this thing is directed by Guy Ritchie? It looks like a good mix of humor, mystery, action, and Robert Downey Jr. I think this is what I’ll be doing Christmas Day. (If you have trouble viewing the trailer, you can watch a small version of it on the msn.com home page. There's a small icon to expand the screen.)

In other movie news, I’ve seen Star Trek and Angels and Demons over the last couple weekends, and strangely, they both get the same review as Wolverine – fun, interesting, but didn’t live up to their full potential. Star Trek had unbelievable special effects, it’s worth seeing on the big screen just for that. And I have to admit, I never thought they could make Spock sexy. But the story seemed so cheeseball to me… Good guys versus an villain, slapstick comedy, obvious dialog. I was hoping for something a little more intellectual, but basically got a serious version of Galaxy Quest. (By the way, if you haven’t seen Galaxy Quest, it’s a HILARIOUS riff on Star Trek movies, must see.)

Angels and Demons was pretty good, but I had a couple pretty major complaints. One of the things that makes the book so interesting is that it feels like a tour of Roman landmarks. You’re in secret parts of St. Peter’s Basilica, or the Pantheon, Bernini fountains, etc. etc. But the movie is trying so hard to tell a complex story quickly, that you don’t really get to savor any of this detail. I swear, the views of the Sistine Chapel were less than 10 seconds before moving the plot forward again. So I felt like they could have capitalized on this, and missed out.

Dad and Mary

Dad and Mary came to stay in Colorado last week, and did a great job as Grandma and Grandpa. Look how especially angelic our little devil looks! :)

Congratulations Bert!

My brother-in-law Bert just graduated with his masters in Chinese medicine and accupuncture, and is setting up his own practice! I am so thrilled for him that he's found such a great calling, and has already achieved so much. If any of you locals need treatment, now you have a hook up.

Max

Congratulations to Chad and Stacey, in welcoming their new little boy Maxwell Alexander Kelly! Born this week, at the same hospital that we were in a year ago. It's nice to pass the baton.

Baby Pictures!

Included in this batch are a trip to Costco, and meeting a new friend! We've found that Logan and Ada love riding in the stroller without their carseats, so the shopping trip was a big success.

Their playmate in the next photo is Noah, the new boy of our friends Stephanie and Seb. Noah was born four days after Ada and Logan. Our kids are so accustomed to playing with each other that they tumbled around like puppies and helped themselves to his toys, while Noah looked on in amazement!

Other recent pictures of Ada reveal her battle scars, she takes no prisoners.

Snopes.com

My sister Lora asked me to fact check an email for her, one of those urgent warnings about new ways that people might drug or attack you when you least suspect. (This one was a recommendation against accepting business cards from strangers, that might be laced with an intoxicant.) I’m so glad she did, these things always sound scary but aren’t usually true. And people mean well by forwarding them, but I hate to see my friends and family suspect the world is such an evil place.

Next time you get one, please check it on SNOPES.COM. This website is one of the best uses of the internet – they actually investigate these kinds of mass emails to see if they’re really true stories and valid warnings. Just pick a couple keywords, I’ve never had trouble finding an exact copy of the email I was checking! It’s a pretty interesting site to surf around too, there are some pretty crazy stories out there.

And for the record, the story about the business cards was deemed false.

Tis The Season!

It's summer movie season again, and every tv commercial seems full of promise. I always go into the summer with the highest hopes, surely a couple of these will be amazing, how can they miss?!?! But of course, it's never quite what you think. So make sure to eat the popcorn.

I saw Wolverine this weekend, officially kicking off the season. I would give it a B. The X-Men series is incredibly rich for creative ideas and interesting theories. But this one was a little higher on the cornball factor than it should have been. If you guys would have been there to smirk, I would have whispered, "Come on!" a few times.

Here are the ones I'm most excited about over the next few weeks:

  • Star Trek. Now this is from a person who has never seen a Star Trek movie before, but the preview really got me.
  • Angels and Demons. I liked The Da Vinci Code more than I expected, Tom Hanks is great, Ron Howard is great, the book was great.
  • The Brothers Bloom. I doubt many have heard of this one, but I saw a preview for it a long time ago, and thought it looked terrific.
  • Terminator 4: Salvation. Christian Bale, in a post-apocalyptic technology thriller. Yes, please.
  • Year One. Comedy with Jack Black and Michael Cera, in the year 1 AD. Commercials look funny, I'll be keeping an eye on it.
  • Public Enemies. This is the one I'm looking forward to most, Johnny Depp and Christian Bale in a Michael Mann film about the bank robber John Dillinger. This has world class potential!
  • Harry Potter 6. Guaranteed, I would think.
  • Funny People. A sweet looking comedy/drama with Adam Sandler and Seth Rogan.
And that should get us to Oscar season, give or take... Let me know if any of you need a movie buddy. :)

Vegas Vacation

Last weekend I met my mom, brother and sister-in-law in Las Vegas for a wedding! We had a great time, the weather was perfect, we saw the sights and made some money, pretty much the perfect vacation.

We went to the wedding of my cousin Chris, and his bride Rebecca. The event was at the Ritz Carleton in Henderson, and it was one of the loveliest I've ever seen. The ceremony was in the courtyard, and the reception was in a big ballroom. I had a lot of fun taking in an elaborate six course meal and dancing my bootie off.

We also spent some time on the strip, spending time at the New York, New York, Cesar's Palace, the Bellagio, and the lion exhibit at the MGM Grand. We even had time to soak in the hot tub and lounge around the condo.

It was my first real trip away from Ada and Logan, and I have to say I couldn't have chosen a more perfect outcome!
