My sister Lora asked me to fact check an email for her, one of those urgent warnings about new ways that people might drug or attack you when you least suspect. (This one was a recommendation against accepting business cards from strangers, that might be laced with an intoxicant.) I’m so glad she did, these things always sound scary but aren’t usually true. And people mean well by forwarding them, but I hate to see my friends and family suspect the world is such an evil place.Next time you get one, please check it on SNOPES.COM. This website is one of the best uses of the internet – they actually investigate these kinds of mass emails to see if they’re really true stories and valid warnings. Just pick a couple keywords, I’ve never had trouble finding an exact copy of the email I was checking! It’s a pretty interesting site to surf around too, there are some pretty crazy stories out there.
And for the record, the story about the business cards was deemed false.
